Better Volleys
Some players just take a big swing at a volley. Maybe they have seen the pros hitting volleys like that. They may do that once in awhile but most of their volleys are short and compact. There is no time to swing at a volley for one thing. If you are worried about power rest assured one can still put plenty of pace on a compact volley. The second point is that there is far fewer errors with a compact volley. Do this to improve on the volley. Choke up on the racquet with your hands behind the strings. Have someone feed you some balls. Now volley. Now as you start to volley you get the sensation of punching the volley and not swinging at it. Then grab the racquet by the handle and do the same thing. It should be short and compact. All the great volleyers at the pro level keep it short and simple.
